Intermittent Power Loss

Hopefully some of you kind folks on here will be able to help me with this issue.
Im experiencing an intermittent power loss on my 2002 X5 3.0 Diesel. It happens generally whilst driving along at 60mph, I go to put my foot down to accelerate but nothing happens, the vehicle remains at the same speed dosent try to shift down gears or rev any higher. After a couple of minutes the fault seems to clear and its fine again I have noticed it more when driving up an incline.
The vehicle was checked at the dealers and they found some fault codes for fuel pressure (prob due to fuel filter having been changed) and something for the turbo. They cleared the faults, dove it tested it again and said nothing appeared to be wrong or out of the ordinary. It drove ok for a couple of days afterwards but the fault reoccured again after that

Just to add, the car is very smokey when accelerating. Mentioned this to the dealer and was told its normal on a diesel BMW.

Any help greatly appreciated as Im out of warranty.

Simon.
