Adoptive headlights problem

Hi i got a 04 X5 with adoptive headlights and I was wondering if somebody else is having the same problem as I do. I'm not sure if you want to call it a problem but I keep getting in trouble with my adoptive headlights, People always think that I'm flasing my high beam at them and they would hit the breaks for no apparent reason or get behind me and flash their high beams. I almost got in to an accident a few times about this and i was wondering if there's something i can do to fix it. Don't get me wrong I love the adoptive lights specially when I go up the mountain but when i drive on the city or the freeway it seems to always piss somebody off. Any suggestions or comments about this issue???

Weasel will become famous soon enough
they shouldn't really do any moving when driving regularly on a flat section of highway... if you still have any warranty left go to the dealer and tell them whats up. Let them deal with it.

They should only move when you take the curves right not when your going straight?

right, and they should only turn towards the passenger side of the vehicle, they do not turn towards the drivers side so they do not blind oncoming drivers. park in front of a wall and turn your wheel side to side and you will see how they move, it is very subtle but obvious if you are paying attention to the light and in front of a wall or something not moving.

They don't turn towards the drivers side when you are sitting....ie... a stop sign or light. While you are on the move, they turn as you turn.......Phil

Had the same issue with our 05. Then my wife crashed into a tractor/trailer and they didn't work at all.

Low speed no injury (except the SAV).

im thinking its the auto leveling thats the issue and not the adaptive feature...

Could also boil down to bumps in the road giving the effect that he has flashed the high beams...

If it is truly not an issue with the adaptive feature, check to make sure the shutter on your Xenon high beams is not stuck. I had an issue on my 3.0 early on where people would flash me because one of my high beams was stuck "on" even when they were not supposed to be. On the Xenons the high beam is controlled by a shutter which I believe has some sort of motor that opens and closes it, the motor had burnt out on mine and they missed it in the CPO as it is very subtle unless you are in front of a wall and pushing the stalk forward and backwards (do not pull towards you as that is a different set of bulbs). They had to replace the headlight and then people stopped flashing me!

My Xenon adaptive headlights curve to the right on the turn but also go up and down. I had a similar problem where people thought I was having high beams on and flashed me. Turned out the auto-leveling mechanism that controls the motion of the lights was broken and had to be replaced (IIRC, about $260, including labor).
