Need help with the turbo

I'm very sad right now because I've just blown the turbo in my 2002 3.0D X5. A car I've only owned for about six weeks. Can anyone help me, please, I need to know where I can find the replacement for it? I live in Central America and don't really know where to buy it, other than the dealer, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna cost a lot and it's gonna take a long while to get. Thanks

Prior to this "incident" I heard that this type of vehicules had this very problem, BMW is suppossed to have corrected this in the cars from 2005 on. My car is a 2002 model with a 3.0 diesel in line-six, I don't know if I menctioned it before. The car has only 64K miles.

Anyway, I was merly doing 3000 rpm's and it blew, just like that, a couple miles before I just heard little noise, but nothing that could lead me to believe what was gonna hapen later.

I posted it because I heard that many of these failed and wanted to know if it's true and what other people have done with it.

hey
yeah i have the same issue
it costs (for parts only) around 9000 czech koruns, which is around £300 from the dealers, excluding labour

Basically what happens is that you can wont move, plus that noise is just annoying! limits you to about 3000rpm, any higher and a loud screeching kinda noise appears

Also be away that the transmission will act up as well after a while if you dont fix it, as the car isnt moving as fast as it should, so the tranny changes down a gear or up a gear, cos its got no brain!

check ebay for parts if you know how to repair it yourself

Hey, Peacemf, I'm sorry to bother you but I was wondering, could you please let me know the email adress of the place where you bougth the turbo for your car, I've been looking all over the internet and haven't found anything that could help me, all web pages I find are from dealers in the US, and none of them have any parts for a diesel engine.
If you could do it I'd be very very thankfull.

I would contact Melett in the UK. Your fix may be as simple as just replacing the center cartridge for the turbo. I bought from them when my K27 turbo blew on the e28 turbo. back then it was 485.00 for the cartridge. I pulled the turbo removed 12 10mm bolts swapped out the cartridge and it has been running ever since. http://www.melett.com/
