i-Pod your BMW?

Is it true that the i-pod has to plug into the glove box? Are there any alternatives to this? Basically, is i-Pod Your BMW a:

a) Great alternative to CD's, or

b) a ClusterF&#% that never should have been produced?

I was just looking at some of this kits on ebay and reading the installation descriptions, and geez! It sounds like there wil be wires hanging around all over the car!

Personally I don't know why today anyone would opt for an iPodYourBMW kit when the Dension IceLink Plus is so much better.

The IceLink works with vehicles with or without Nav, iPodYourBMW only works with non-nav.

The IceLink works with vehicles with or without DSP, iPodYourBMW only works with non-DSP.

The IceLink gives you ID3 song tags display, iPodYourBMW doesn't

The IceLink gives you the option of using up to 5 playlists, Album play, or Artist play - iPodYourBMW only offers the 5 playlists.

The IceLink give you the option of a docking cradle or a pigtail type of cable interface to the iPod, which allows you to put it anywhere in the vehicle you choose.

I'm not trying to bash the iPodYourBMW, but quite frankly BMW dropped the ball on this one and it is an inferior product. Just my 2 cents.

I have the iPodyourBMW connector. It does its job of playing an iPod but thats about it. It took some getting used to. I think it's fine. It's nothing special, though. It also has an issue where it drops to the radio and then refuses to recognize the iPod until the car has been shut off and on again. THAT is a pain in the butt... If I'm on the highway and my iPod stops working, I have to get off the highway, find a parking lot, restart the car, then continue on my way.. This used to happen once every two months or so but now it happens twice a week... I'm thinking that I might have the iPodyourBMW replaced with an OEM Sirius tuner, and then I would get the IceLink because it seems to be a much better product.

It also has an issue where it drops to the radio???? You mean the iPod stops playing on it's own and then you have to do what you describe? Sounds to me like you need to complain about that and get a free fix.

Yes... The iPod will just stop working without warning, and it won't start again until I turn the car off and on again. My dealer says there's no way to fix it.

I kknow this has been debated before but I need a simple resume:

How can I have Icelink plus in my car and still be able to keep my CD changer (BMW Aux input kit? maybe?), of course the objective is to be able to control both from the steering wheel and full oem integration if possible.

My car has DSP and the 16.9 screen.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know what's up with your kit but my iPodYourBMW kit has never done that. Your dealer should try another unit.

I got my iPod kit before the Dension products were taking off so I didn't have much of a choice. I still like having the iPod kit in the X5 and I do not intend on changing it but I do think the Dension product is better. All will be better if I got an E90 with the auxiliary plug in the center console.

OK...I HAVE that auxiliary input in my car..Does that mean, I dont need the ice-link thing? or does it just make it more integrated?
