NO Bluetooth, but I got a Call??!!

Hey guys,

the other day my wife and I are driving down the road, and all of the sudden a phone rings through the speakers. we press the phone button, and hear a person on the line, they spoke spanish but they did manage to say wrong number after a while....

now the weird part is that our X5 4.4 is a 2004, but the early 2004, with a 12/03 build date......I was under the impression that my car has no Bluetooth....so how did we get the call, and why were we able to talk to them?

(our phones didn not register any call, so it was entirely through the car..)

can you guys help me out??

From your Assist... it has its own phone number through an analog carrier.

When I used to have my E46 M3, some people have asked what the phone number was to the person who called and have used that phone number for incoming calls.

You got a wrong number call, or a glitch where your system conferenced into someone else's call. As was said, the BMW Assist is essentially a separate analog cell phone system in the car, that you can only use to call the Assist folks. However, since it has a secret phone number, it can actually receive calls.

Your Assist module has a phone number. Somebody dialed it by mistake.

you use to be able to find out what the number was by looking on the card with your bluetooth passcode (if you have a post late-2004 model) or on your service history and looking for the MIN. However, I have noticed that they now show XXX instead of numbers and are not on the cards anymore..

You just entered the Twilight Zone!

It was just a freak airwave that was recieved by your BMW Assist. We early 04s unfortunately don't have BT

Where is the circuit card located? Maybe looking directly at the card can give a clue as to the phone number?
