3rd Party Warranty (Warranty Direct) on a CPO

Is it worth purchasing 3rd party warranty on a CPO X5?

I know that CPO does not cover everything so I got a quote on the "bumper-to-bumper" coverage from Warranty Direct.

But since this will run concurrent to the CPO coverage is it worth it? I'm assuming the 3rd party coverage will cover what CPO does not.

Should I wait till CPO runs out (December 2010)? Its a 2005 X5 4.4 with 38000kms as of now. Thinking of getting the 5yr/100,000 kms coverage. I was quoted about $4K Canadian.

I would wait...why have warranty coverage on top of CPO? Just for
the things CPO won't/might not cover? Pretty price safety net, imo...
and, who knows what your frame of mind, or car, will be 2 plus years
from now. My 2Cts...

I have purchased 3rd party warranty 2 times and in both cases they delayed payment on repairs and tried to use crappy parts. They argued with the shop and in one case the ship said they would not do work on a car with 3rd party warranty coverage.

In both cases I canceled the policy on the spot with my car in the shop. I'd pass on any coverage other than CPO.

Thanks mD and Cleaner... you both raise important points... I'll wait and see how it goes in 2 years.
