Oil changed with regular oil how bad is it?

Hi my sister decided to get me an oil change on an 01 X5 4.4 as a favor to me. When she went to the gas station the mechanic asked her if she wanted regular or synthetic. When she asked what the differance was they said nothing, regular oil just needs to be changed more often. Now I have never used regular oil and have only used Mobil 1 prior to this mishap. Now I am wondering wtf am I supposed to do? Should I go change the oil right away to synthetic? Is the damage already done? I have driven around 50miles on it so far. The only reason I even found out that she got an oil change was when talking to my mother she said she paid $60 for the oil change. Something didn't add up.

LOL there's no "damage." Just drive it and change it to synthetic later on.

It's not like you're revving the motor at redline most of the time.

If it bothers you so much, change it to synthetic. However, it's not worth doing so, in my opinion.

BMW motors aren't made of gold.

Do a search here on previous oil threads. You might see a warning light at some point down the road. Usually the filter is the main issue here.

Sorry damage already done and nothing you can do about it now, too late. Your engine max life is now around 600miles, 1000miles if you are lucky. BMW engines are extremely sensitive to oil quality and only accept Mobil 1. Any other type of oil will have a destructive effect. As a favor to a member of this board though I am willing to buy your X for $2000 negotiable.

You will be fine. However, be sure to not follow the inspection lights as when to change it. I would change back to synthetic at 3,000 - 5,000 miles. I would guarantee the oil and filter in the car right now are not made to last as long as the synthetic oil and better filter can.

Otherwise, no big deal.

when I first switched over to Mobil 1 with my earlier cars - I did 2 oil changes, the second at 1000 miles to remove all remaining reg oil in the system - of course that was when I was buying Mobil 1 by the case at less than $25, as I had included it with an order for multiple 55 gal drums of other Mobil oils for our machine shop.

my bid $2002. Will you take a check?
