Continental 315/30-22 Balance PROBLEM
i just installed 22 inch replica 4.8 wheels on my 04 x5 3.0 sport package. They are 22x9.5 in the front and 22x11 in the rear. I am running 265/35/22 in the front and 315/30/22 in the rear. The wheels and tires look great but It rides horible. I have gotten the tires balanced 6 times in the last 3 weeks and had one rear tire replaced and still no help. It was also balanced on a hunter roadforce one of the times. I have had very bad rear vibration. The front just shakes from side to side. They are replacing the tires with toyo to see if it helps. Any Ideas on the problem? I am hoping the tires are not round. Everytime the have balanced the tires they have been out of balance by a little bit.
The only other thing I have done was to have the truck alinged before I put the rims on. I had the shop set it as staight as possible to avoid wear to rear tires. I road on the truck with the stock 18 inche wheels for 1 month before I put the wheels on and had no problem. Anyone ever put these small balls in there tires. Dyna balance I think is the name. People that have tried them love them. |

Are the reps hubcentric?
Also, the new wheels will ride much more harsh. Could there have been some play in the suspension/steering components that is much more pronounced with the new larger wheels and lower profile tires?

I had the identical issue with replica rims on my E53. Balanced more than 1/2 dozen times and still a horrible ride. In my case my rims were 20" not 22" but the bigger the rim the more noticeable the wobble will be.
My problem was that the hub on my rims was cut 1.4 millimeters wider than what the manufacturer advertised. This caused my wheels to not be hub-centric when mounted and the results were horrendous. I measured the wheels hub diameter then ordered reduction rings to compensate for the difference between the wheel and the actual spindle it mounts too (I ordered aluminum rings from http://www.1010tires.com). The ride was wonderful after the rings were put on. You will likely need the 74.1mm --> 72.56mm rings. Make sure you take both measurements with a DIGITAL caliper. Good luck! |

Ok I have talked the tire shop in to trading the tires in for a different kind. My options are a 305/35/22 rear and 265/40/22 pirelli or 315/30/22 rear 285/35/22 front toyo. I think I am going with the pirellis due to the avaliblity and I am thinking that the taller and slitley skinnyer rear tire may work better. The pirelli is a inche taller and .40 skinnyer rear compaired to the toyo or the cont. I called BMW and he said if the pirelli's will clear it should work. It is 30.40 tall

I am pretty sure you are having a hubcentric issue that affects how the replica wheel mounts on the hub. I would bet that the tires are not your issue.

OT: I'm trying to remember if style 87 reps are the correct hub size or not?
