Warped brake rotor - Covered under warranty?

Recently, I noticed that the steering wheel on my 2005 X5 would shake when braking moderately hard at highway speeds. Turns out the dealership says that the brake rotors are warped.

I know brakes are not covered by warranty, as they are a wear and tear item, but what about the rotors? The dealership is looking into if they should be covered or not, but I do not see why they shouldn't be covered. Anyone with this experience?

Thanks!
