Auto Climate Control Button Question

Hi,I had a question about the MAX switch (maximum cooling). I have a '01 E53 and i have a switch w/ the letters RES or R?? (cann't remember off the top of my head, wife has X5 at the time and hates when i call her about car questions...lol) in the same place as the MAX switch. I looked in my owners manual and the online pdf here (page 106, # 16) on the home page but does not show this switch only the MAX one. Does anyone know what the Rs?? switch is for???

Would this be for residual heat? I saw that on page 110 but it shows the MAX switch and nothing w/ a R?? on the switch...Cheers,

You say "in the same place as" the MAX button. Do you mean you have this button instead of the MAX button??

could be a REST button. This could be used after you switched the ignition off to keep the AC going i.e. keep you warm/cool whilst you took a phone call/waited for the wife to leave the shop. My first X5 had that option.

I was wondering that too. Here is the link to the owners manual http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/BM...%202001.pdfHow they state it in the manual there is the MAX switch for cooling at the maximum, will go down to 60f and full blast (page 109)They states on page 110 there is a Residual heat mode which is the one you talk of, when engine is off you can hit the switch and the heat from the engine will keep the X warm for a short time but they show the MAX switch and no REST switch. I am a person that has to know everything about something before i use it, dont want to F any thing up...lolCheers,Maybe there is a mis-print (that never happens...lol) and the REST switch should be were the MAX switch is on page 110.

Could it be that a previous owner, when he found out how much the $tealer charges, decided not to buy the full set of button blanks and just replaced a broken button face with what he could get to fit in the hole?

lmao, no the PO (i am the second) took very good care of her! I was shocked how clean and perfect the inside was for a women owning her. It even had the window sticker in the complete set of owners manuals.
