Brakes making noise in snow

Snowed in Chicago less than an inch last night. All of a sudden, the brakes began making grinding noise when braking in snow (although not on dry or wet surface). Performance does not seem to affected. Any ideas? Scary. Thanks

That is not a noise from the braking when you brake.
That is the noise from the tires and the snow on the ground surface.

I know I sound like an idiot...

and I'm sure you're right. It didn't sound normal though and wife (who drives it) nor I have ever heard/noticed that sound before (she has driven in snow plenty of times this winter alone).Anyway, thanks. She is doing a sanity check as we speak.

also possible its the ABS making that sound... best way to test it is to step on the brake while making a turn on a snow/ice covered road...

my car makes that noise whenevr we go near snow. i think my X5 is allergic to snow. loll just my personal joke. but i never knew it could be the snow and tire contact. i always thought it was the brakes making noise
