I had a similar problem. The radio of my 2005 X5 3.0i would take a long time before it comes on. I took it to the dealer today. They told me that the radio is generating so many failure codes that they decided to replace it. I will pick it up Monday. It is cover by warranty.

I picked up my car yesterday. The dealer replaced the radio, the telecommunication control unit (TCU) and the Battery. The telecommunication control unit was the main problem. It was causing the radio problem and also it was discharging the battery. My battery went dead twice in a week. I hope you do not have the same issue. Because the Battery, the TCU and the radio installed cost about $4,000. If you have the same problem I do hope your X is still under warranty. Good luck
