Shouldn't MKIII Navigation with 16:9 screen dim / invert / darken at night?

Hi all:

This one has been bugging me for a while. I got a 2002 4.4i with an upgraded MKIII and 16:9 High screen. Software shows 3-1/63

Job-based, I really love to drive with the "Current Position" map in fullscreen. Problem is, at night the map is so bright that it really kind of distracts me from driving.

Question is, shouldn't the map color scheme invert when you turn on the headlights?

As in, instead of showing dark lines over a bright background show bright lines over a dark background? The old 3'5 display I had did it it, but after upgrading to the 16:9 it doesn't anymore.

I can't find any adjustable setting either in the SETTINGS menu OR the SERVICE MENU.

Any suggestions welcome and thx.
