Shakey steering wheel when braking from 55+??? NOT BRAKES.

I am dumbfounded. Had this problem since May, finally got around to swapping the rotors and pads (dealer said they were warped because I "ran through water") and wouldnt you know it the problem persists.

Hard steering shimmy when braking moderate to hard from 55mph or so.

I know I have a bad ball joint on the pass side. Any way this is causing the shaking?

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Shaking steering wheel...

Not sure, but I would like to figure this out also I've replace a control arm and rotors and the shaking when braking at about 50mph persists... however, it only does it when braking lightly, hard breaking = no shaking... Give me an update on your situation... Thanks.

could be a hubcentric issue.... I take it you both have aftermarket rims... If you do not have the correct hub centric adapter or the rim was not built for the E53 BMW you could be having this shaking and around 80 mph also.

Thrust arm bushings could be your problem.

it's when you use your arm to thrust through a bushing. j/k

The bushing is a soft, rubber bushing inside the upper control arm aka thrust arm on your front suspension. when the bushing wears, the change in load makes the front end wiggle.

I am having this same issue as well.

How costly/time consuming/involved is the replacement of the bushing(s)?
