Where is the Battery on my 2003 E53 ?

I bought my first X5 in August - low mileage and very clean. I've searched this forum and looked in my drivers manual but I can't seem to find where the battery is located - odd for such a fundamental component. Can someone please help me locate it.

Alan

Here are a few links with pics and instructions:
easy DIY. If you are just jumping or trickle charging
the battery, there are self-evident connections under
the hood.

Thanks mD. It looked like it might be there, but I didn't want to remove the spare just to check. Since it's coming up to 6 years old next spring it's likely to need replacing.
