removing silencer from exhaust

hey guys, can anyone tell me if they have removed the silencer from the exhaust? if this is legal can anybody tell me how to do it and if so how does it sound afterwards. is it a deep rumble or does it sound like its farting down the road!

There are a number of good threads on the topic - it happens to be my next mod. I have a 4.8 and from what I've read and heard I can maintain close to the standard db's at idle, however when opened up the sound really comes alive. There are sound clips that are available in some of the links too so you can hear for yourself. Some folks have gone the full route by removing the resonator, installing an x pipe and a high performance exhaust.
