Smile 2004 X5 Buying Advice

Getting ready to make the move to BMW and getting rid of my Grand Cherokee.

I am going to look at a white 2004 with 59K on it.

It is at a BMW dealer and has been inspected. I want to see the records as well as their inspection paperwork.

What else should I look for when going thru the car?

BTW - My son has a tricked out 540i that will run strong with my 97 Cobra, so it is time to make the move.

Thanks,

I would look at the production date. You can find this information on the drivers door panel. This has an effect on whether you have adaptive lights, bluetooth based TCU and the Panoramic sunroof option. If you can list all the features available on the car and the cost, many on this forum can give you some objective feedback. Is this vehicle CPO'ed?

Just because the dealer said they inspected it does not really mean a thing. I would have an independent shop inspect it too.

Good luck!

Appreciate the feedback. I looked at one today but and was able to see all the maintenance records for the vehicle.

I know a BMW mechanic that I will have evaluate when I find a vehicle that I like.

Thanks,

Appreciate the information. Chattanooga isn't that far away and the dealer may be hungry for some $s.

Happy holidays!

I just got an 04 4.4 5 months ago myself. I would def make sure it is a CPO. My car has been to the dealer twice and if I had to pay for the repairs myself I would have been sick.
1st trip to dealer I complained of the trani slipping and my mirrors wouldn't fold in. They fixed the mirrors and updated my trani software. Trani still has probs and my heat stopped working, not to mention 2 torn cv boots, reason it's at the dealer again.

Great advice! I want to make sure that I am covered and not having to sell my wife to pay for repairs.

I am lucky that my son is good friends with a BMW mechanic. I am going to have him go through anything I am interested in before buying.

Appreciate the feedback.
Happy holidays!

My advice: definately get CPO and/or extended warrantee. Dump the car as soon as warrantee runs out.

Being new to BMW, can you explain what CPO stands for?

I appreciate the feedback.

MAKE SURE YOU GET CPO and EXTENDED MAINTENANCE!!!!!!!!!! My '04 4.4 is a blast to own and drive but if I had to pay for the maintenance items I've had done - brakes, oil, filter, front control arms - I'd be living in the thing.
