Painted my chrome trim!

Ok, I know it's kinda pointless to start this thread without having any pictures, but I am just so happy with the way it turned out that I couldn't wait.

First off, I want to thank Nelson for his great write up "E53 X5 Chrome Window Trim Removal & Paint". It looked pretty intimidating at first, but the farther I got into the project the more confident I got that it would turn out great.

I will post before and after pics as soon as I snap some shots. And anyone that has been considering doing this, I say go for it! It looks 10x better, and aside from taking me WAY longer than anticipated, it really isn't that hard of a job.

Phone Pics

Ah what the heck, what are camera phones for... Here are before and after pictures. I painted the grill while I was at it too!

Up next will be style 87 replicas, and projector angel eyes. That should wrap things up for a while. Hope you like it.

how do you rate it from 1 to 10 ( how hard 1 being easy and 10 being hard)

Well... I guess I would say maybe a 5 as far as difficulty, but it gets pretty involved when you do the front door. The write up that I followed did an excellent job showing what trim needs to be removed, and where all the bolts are. Essentially, you need to take the door panel and mirror off.

Otherwise, it is just time consuming. Make sure you don't rush when you sand the trim down, give ample time for the paint to dry, and then massage the window seals back in... and that was a pain - but not difficult.

Sure did. Spent about 1-2 hrs scuffing up the trim with 180 grit paper, and I used self etching primer. 4 coats. We'll see how it holds up.

TaMbALoLoNg is an unknown quantity at this point
Well, on the other hand I was thinking of doing the opposite and change my black trim to chrome. Hmmm decisions, decisions.
