Weasel...or any others with input

I've started to pick up a shimmy while braking. It starts when brake is about 20% applied and stops as I get to about 50%. Started doing it only at high speed (70mph plus). I'm starting to notice at lower speeds. Indy says it's the rotors and to live with it till brakes need to be done (brakes and rotors have about 10-15 thousand miles on them). I feel (based on board search) that it may be bushings or some other front suspension parts. My X is 2001 4.4 sport with 103000 miles. To my knowledge no suspension parts have been replaced to date.

Hi Mike,

I'm curious why you feel it might be suspension instead of the rotors. I was gonna say rotors too. Is it because the vibration doesn't start until breaking 20%?

I'd say rotors. In other vehicles you can turn them - others will know if you can turn X rotors but I'd guess not.

Thrust arm bushings could be the problem. Rotors is the first most obvious guess...

I guess the question is...what make them warp so quickly. I don't drive the X hard. Could it be as simple as water on hot rotor? My first thought was also the rotor...it just seemed they weren't old enough to have warped already.

I've had that happen on other vehicles with non OEM spec rotors - any chance you have that combination?

I don't believe in warped rotors.

Good article but I don't think there's no such thing as warped rotors. They exist and I've had them in the past on other vehicles and attributed them to excessive heat and or poor quality materials.

Regardless, it sounds like the bushings are a more probable source of the problem for the X.
