2.5" X Pipe Diamater Questions

So i got my hands on a 2.5" x-pipe but i'm having some trouble figuring out what else i need. the resonator (2002 4.4i sport) i think is 2.25" which would mean i need to go from 2.25 ID to to 2.5 OD. right?

oh man, i think im just confusing myself. anyone know the OD of the pipes before and after the resonator?

what if i cut it off and use duct tape? nah.

Heheh.. yeah, straight pipes will work too.

You don't need anything else. Any muffler shop can weld in that 2.5 x-pipe into your oem exhaust. Having a slightly bigger OD for the x-pipe is no problem at all. Get it on there an enjoy.

Cool

Straight pipes will make it sound very raspy, really does not sound "right", not worthy of a BMW, don't do it. I tried it for ten minutes, sounded stupid and annoying and had the shop put the resonator back. I bought an Eisseman (spelling wrong I know) race exhaust and it sounds great, had the Dinan exhaust but wanted something racier and deeper sounding. Fits the X5, not annoyingly loud or raspy sounding. I have the Dinan exhaust available for best offer, am about to Ebay it. Someone sold theirs for $580, reasonable I think for mine also. It sounds much deeper and sportier than stock but not as much as the Eisseman Race exhaust but then, not as expensive.

I think if you got a 2.25" X pipe you wouldn't run into problems. Thats what many people on X5 world went with, and what I recently went with as well.

on the left side of that pic, it looks like there is a big gap between the pipe and existing pipe. whats that about? i measured the pipe and its 2" OD. so the 2.5 one i got is no good cause i dont want all sorts of adapters in there. im gonna try and find one thats 2"

Weasel will become famous soon enough
The original pipe is metric being from Germany and all, but the 2.25 is the closest bigger size available here and any exhaust shop with a pipe expander/shrinker machine (which they all should have) can make quick work of it.

Here's a quick shot of my current setup, which will be replaced with an x-pipe whenever I get around to it...
