Correct - I bought it Private Party in CA, and drove it back to Oregon. If you buy it from a dealer however, you have to either pay sales tax, or pay to have it shipped to the Oregon border. Buying private party you're exempt from both these restrictions...

It's advantageous to buy cars from CA in Oregon because we have a flat rate registration of $73... and no sales tax!

I see you're in Pleasanton - - I lived on Sanderling way in Pleasanton for ~1 year - - right behind the sports park. I miss that town!

Observations:

1) Sleeeeeeeek and sexy.
2) Hard to believe it's an '02. The paint job and gloss looks completely new, at least at the distance you took the photos. Do you know if the original owner had the hood and fenders re-sprayed??
3) Considering any mods? Angel eyes might be a nice addition...

2) Funny you should ask... the pictures with Summer Tires were original paint. The pictures with Winter Tires are after the front was re-sprayed. The same week I bought it, I drove down to the Oregon vs. Utah State game (with Cali plates in Eugene) - and some hippy decided he wanted to express his disliking for either the SAV, or for the Cali plates - they're known for fire-bombing SUV's in that town because of all the anarchists. They're called Eco-Terrorists. It was keyed across the hood ~1 foot long & to the metal.

I had the hood acid stripped, and fender rock chips filled before respraying. Documented the whole thing so I could show a new potential buyer.

3) Mods? Since buying the X, I have put less than 500 miles on the 335 in ~6 months. I like the X so much, I'm considering parting with the 335 and perhaps buying a new 4.8i. Then, I would Mod with Aero kit and wheels. Keep it clean!

In California you still have to pay sales tax on the purchase whether private party or dealer, but that only occurs once you register it in the state - I hate that, the state taxes the sale of the same item twice. Complete bs.

Nice! I'm going on five years in Pleasanton, its been a great place to live. I love the sports park, I'm there every Sunday (except for the off-season) for PASS.

Anyway, congratulations on the new X5. I just picked mine up a few weeks ago as well.

Ha - I'm in Beaverton/Orenco. The X would pair nicely with Beaver colors... but I'm loyal to my alma mater - even if they do firebomb car dealerships down there...

Any relation to Jim Knotz? Found any good indy mechanics around here?

It is a small world huh

I only have the Oregon State hitch cover and the Oregon State License plates (that I just got!)

I did take out the stock speakers and stock subwoofer and added after market speakers

I found some wheels on craigslist and had Les schwab find me some studless snow tires, so now I have a set of winter /Wheels and tires and summer / Wheels and tires.

Take care

J
