Rare but happens: time and date reset automatically

There are times, maybe once every month or so, that i'll climb in and then my clock and date read "------". I have to reset it.

Then, 1 or 2 months later, it's cleared out again.

Odd thing this past time, was that all my presets were still present, but the time and date were gone.

A low battery issue wouldnt be plausible, as both of would been wiped out right? I've had instances where both presets, date and time were erased.

Comments?

It happened to me once when my X5 was in the shop. Has not happened since.

make sure your battery cables are tight.

anyone else have this problem?

I have this problem, the clock always shows --:-- (Tried to reset, but it simply blinks, when clock button pressed but no setting options like PM / AM show up). I followed advice disconnecting the battery but it did not help. This is the only problem with my X5.

Any help is appreciated.

yeah, it's kinda like i can bring it to the dealer, but i can replicate it on the spot, so all they are going to tell me is to buy a $100 battery (includes labor), be without a car for a day, and then in one month, it happens again.

doh!

I've had my '05 4.4i for 4 months now and this exact situtation has happened to me twice. Time and date were gone, and also wiped out all of the stored data in the trip computer (mileage, avg. speed, etc.). Radio presets were fine. Hasn't happened in over 2 months, was thinking it was just me... Sounds like I'm not alone, maybe there's a problem/solution?

interesting. only my time and date were gone. trip computer was fine, radio presets were fine. just the time and date. it's not that bad to reset it, but i just dont want some sort of electrical fallout when i'm on the 3 hour desert drive to Vegas, know what i mean? hopefully it's just a faulty wire somewhere and that it doesn't worsen.... i hope some tech guys can get on this thread and advise.

Bringing this thread back to life....anyone else experience this. Happened to me the other day while driving. Dash & radio lights cut off for a quick second. Ended up having to reset the clock, seat memory, trip odometer went back to zero...but radio station presets ended up ok.

what could be wrong here?

Same thing has happened to me at least 4 times ('05 X5 4.4). Time/date are gone but radio presets are fine. Never a problem starting the car either. Weird.
