car wont start with new chip from another x5 in my key

my gf has a spare key that i needed a chip from and programmed it to my car... got the alarm features to work but the car wont start... why is that? i thought that when u program the key to the remote it would give it the ability to turn on? whats the deal?

hi, besides the remote, it is also a chip in the key. That has to be reprogramed to the automobile. If you have a working key, use that one until you take it to the dealer, to reprogram the other one.
