Alarm Going Off Issue Update

So my '05 X5 4.4 is having this problem again - alarm going off intermittently whenever it wants to. Last time it happened about a month ago, took it to the stealer, who had replaced the door latch under extended warranty. This time it's happening again, and the stealer tells me the fault codes are showing both the hood contact switch AND the motion detector, for a grand total of $530!!! This time, however, the Service Advisor is saying that the alarm is NOT covered by extended warranty, what the...?!
Found a shop who will replace the Hood Contact Switch for $35 parts and labor (OEM). What do you recommend I do if this doesn't fix the problem? Why such a discrepancy in the extended warranty coverage between fixing the problem last time and not fixing it this time?

This is a common issue on the X. If I were you, I'd just disconnect the hood switch, it takes literally 2 seconds to do. Thats what myself and many other members have done...No more problems.

As for it being covered last time but not this time, try bringing a copy of the paperwork from last time... then saying "not only was it covered last time, but it wasn't even completely fixed!"

I just don't like when dealers do shit like that, gives us all a bad name. I try to have pride in being an honest and fair technition, and cringe at the term "slealership: because of that.

I had this problem as well. Dealer charged me $200 for parts and labor. I later find out the hood switch they replaced only cost $17!!!!

I asked them if I could just disconnect it so that I wouldn't have this problem again and they said there was no way. I wish I would have known about this site beforehand.

And my car is also covered by CPO.

Small piece of plastic 5mm.thick sticked between hood and hood switch will resolve this problem forever!

That is why so many $tealership techs go on to become excellent, successful indies.
