Radio station is fuzzy and full of static in new X5

My friend just bought an X5 in the Cincinnati area. The radio can't seem to get a very popular radio station here, 107.1. It comes in fuzzy and full of static to where she can't even hear the dj. She's had the car for 5 weeks. First 3 weeks were fine. Last 2 weeks, it has gotten progressively worse.

She took it in to BMW and they are giving her the runaround. The service manager said that he has seen this issue on "some" X5s. One of the technicians says it happens on his 330. They said they test drove the showroom X5, and it had the same issue. I did a search on these forums and didn't find anyone else complaining about this issue.

Clearly, this sounds like b.s. Has anyone else had this issue with their radio? Do you think something is wrong with the antennae or the radio? Thanks.

OK, am I the only one here who immediately thought of WKRP?! Sorry, I couldnt resist... Oh yeah, all you under 25's need not ask...

And yes, it does sound like total BS. How the hell can they ALL have the same problem? Were you there when they verified the showroom X?

No, but that's what my friend plans on doing today. They make it seem that a good number of BMW radios have this problem.

I only have this problem when it's raining, and the rear defroster and/or wiper is going. (I believe the X5's radio antenna is in the rear windshield.) This does not happen every time it rains, but it ONLY happens when it rains. Has it been raining there?

Just a thought... Welcome to the board, by the way!

Juan

If it worked fine for weeks, and is now a problem, I would check connections.

I believe she took the car in for an alignment about a couple of weeks ago. Do you think they messed up the connections somehow? I don't see how a tire alignment can affect the radio connections though...
