Handle replaced, alarm doesn't work

so after my hit and run incident i had the car repaired at what should have been an excellent body shop. when he blended the paint into the drivers door, he removed the door handle. apparently one of his guys lost the long bolt that goes in there and replaced it with a philips head. this caused the door handle to start popping off after a few days. i took it back to him and he replaced it with the 'bmw' bolt or whatever. but now the car won't arm itself. when i hit lock on the remote, 3 doors lock but the drivers door does not; it must be manually locked with the key. but when inserting the key it ONLY locks the drivers door, the rest ONLY lock with the remote. the alarm does not chirp at all. nor does the flashing red light that indicates it is armed illuminate. any ideas?

They did not install your door lock correctly. I just had my door apart today to change the carrier. I had to play around with the lock to make sure it was seated correctly. At first, it didn't want to lock/unlock correctly until I reseated it, then it was fine. Another on this forum had similar issues until they removed the lock and reseated it.

I'm not sure what you are referring to with the "long bolt / phillips head". There is only 1 bolt, about 1 inch long. That is the bolt you have to access through the hole in the side of the door. That is the bolt that holds on the lock, which can be causing your problem. If they did loose the bolt, it most likely fell into the bottom inside of your door. Don't be surprised to hear something rattling around inside.

I just re-read your post. What part of the handle was popping off?

Yeah i believe it was that 1 inch bolt they lost and replaced.. and it makes sense it fell down somewhere inside the door.. and i also wouldn't be surprised if he installed it incorrectly. he is getting frustrating.

as for the part popping off, if you were looking at the door handle from outside, the keyhole part was beginning to pop out and you can see the bolt if you looked between the keyhole and the door.

oh and thanks for the quick response

Yes, that is definitely your issue. You shouldn't see that bolt at all. Same issue I had. It was a little difficult getting that bolt to line up, but once I had it, everything work ok.
