:xoutpost:

Its a difficult & expensive task to swap the clusters out, electronically speaking. Here in the USA, you must purchase a new one from the dealer and have it coded for the vehicle. If you just slap the 4.8is cluster in your 3.0 the "tamper" LED will be lit (vehicle mileage will not match the cluster). Also I believe the oil temp gauge will not function. If you want the 4.6/4.8is look, then you can get gauge modification kits on ebay or other mod shops on the internet. Do a search here on x5world. Many members have done this.

I didn't realize this was a common mod. Cool. I'd just settle for the gauge rings, but have yet to find the exact ones BMW uses.

Thanks zerochief. The overlays are scary and I don't want to f-up my cluster. The rings are nice but I'd really like to get the ones that were used by BMW in the 2006 X5, which I believe are not chrome or aluminum and look somewhat like titanium. BMW only called them "bright metal-ringed instrument dials." If I could get the OE ones, I'd buy them today.

Thanks for answers... With recoding I won't have any problems, but I can't find any solutions of problems with oil temp and speed indication?! Maybe somebody write his own way of installing?!
