chile1 can only hope to improve
Better OEM sound system & manual transmission for the 8 cylinder engines. Manual transmission is only available on the 3.0 (I think?)....

A stereo system that is in this decade, and not one specially fit so it cannot easily be replaced w/out major modifications!

Allison transmission instead of the ZF unit (or 6 speed manual option).

I do agree w/the stereo too though. Not that good, but no BMW audio system is any good in this vintage.

I'd keep most everything as is on the E53. A few notes:

1. Work out the manual transmission. I've heard it isn't as fluid or well-geared as most other BMWs, including the super-short 1st gear.

2. Reduce fuel consumption, but that's a function of older technology in them.
