Exclamation E53 2004-2006 HEADLAMP FOGGING CLOUDY REPAIR SUGGESTIONS?

The 2004 X5 Headlight cover/assembly is cloudy and restraining some lighting due to this. Is there are cover replacement or is this a factory only type of repair. I am new to the X5 thank you for your advice and support!

My 2006 BMW X5 4.4 has the same problem with foggy HID assembly light. I complain it to BMW dealer, they remove it and clean it with solution and seal it back. It looks better now. Thank BMW, my car is still under warranty. They will replace your Headlight if it is still foggy over time. Check with your local BMW dealer, if they can correct that for you.

Thanks

Headlamp Lense Cleaning or replacement options..

Thank you for the responses. The car is out of factory warranty and is in CPO warranty period. I asked if they would be willing to make an exception or I call BMW to get authorization. Service advisor got nervous told me not to call and in my opinion made sure nothing could be done. Dealer says not a covered item in CPO period. Does anyone have a schematic or point to a place of how to replace or clean the headlight lenses without replacing the entire headlight assembly? (Mechanical Directions) Thank you X5world community with any assistance.

realchef posted a really good DIY on this exact problem some time ago. I've had a look for the thread but can't find it. Drop him a line with your problem, I'm sure he'll help out.

It's hard to tell from your description if it's condensation on the inside or on the outside of the plastic. It sounds like what I've seen on most bimmers with the plastic headlight lenses after they five or six years old the outside of the lenses become cloudy and yellowish. I wet sanded the cloudy layer off of the outside of my headlight lenses starting with 1000 or 1500 grit wet sand paper (depending on how bad), then worked my way up to 2500 grit. After the 2500 I buffed the crap out of it with Meguiar's PlastX plastic wax and they look almost like new again.

X5NTahoe,

Go to this website RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog to find out the exact headlight assembly for your model. You can remove it and clean it with cleaning solution.

take a picture of how bad they are at night, they will give you some bs like they are aimed incorretly.. tell them to aim them and take a night picture. then reference this site..

It is up to the dealer discretion. Let them put it in writing that nothing is wrong and ask the dealer to take a picture have the SA sign it and then take your own picture for double confirmation and copy of your service invoice demonstrating that the dealer is blind and perhaps toyota products will be in your future when you call BMW NA and send the pdf of the blind dealer invoice the picture of the lights the NHTSB letter the SIB # (service information bulletin) and then let them know how they could produce something with such safety concerns as faulty headlight designs. Failure to fix will result in loss of future customer and bad publicity as you may contact your local media outlets to get the word out. The game these days from BMW to customers is push back and until the squeeky wheel gets the grease there is a half hearted effort to repair the issue at hand. Usually takes about three trips to get the real problem repaired. Especially with the lights. By the way they are made by Hella. May be able to get them aftermarket for much less if the dealer does not cooperate.
and put in your year make model and this should come up..
