self level suspension inactive on my 4.8is
I got a flat tire this morning and now it is reading "SELF LEVEL SUSP. INACTIVE". My car has the full adjustable ride height and non of the lights are on for the level. The car has 3 different lights for low normal and high and non are on and the button does nothing. I am not under warrenty either. Is this a simple fix or will it go away? Like i said now i can not control up or down for the ride height. That button is dead.

does one corner appear to be lower than the others? your photo shows a lowered stance or maybe its just the photo. i recently popped and airbag at the rear and didnt even throw a light on. self level has sensors at the rear with a small lever attached to the lower suspension your flat may have stripped it off or damaged the small bundle of wire connections at the rear inside or the wheel well

Check the simple stuff first like the fuse. If there is a relay, check that as well. Don't always assume it is the most expensive, hardest to get at piece that has failed.

for the past month or two if i have it in its lowest mode and walk away for about and hour and come back the front right side will be completley low. When i hit the unlock button in about 10 seconds that side will fill up with air and the car will be level again. I am assuming there is a hole in the bag. The car now does not let you have any control over the suspesion it just reads self level inactive.

You might have a leak. Time to go to the dealer.

You will need access to a GT1 DIS system in order to troubleshoot the problem. If you want to avoid dealer pricing, find a good independent with these capabilities.

Hey zerochief-
I know local BMW CCA chapters often have a tool borrowing/rental program. Maybe that's something X5 World should look into?! Everyone pitches in to get a GT1 DIS. Jeff or someone would be the caretaker of it. |

Thats a good idea especially for members out of warranty. I went through the nightmares of the "selflevel susp inact" error for several months. At least I was under CPO at the time... now I'm on my own. You can pick up a laptop version of the DIS online for about a grand. The real thing is a lot more.

What does the laptop version consist of? Just software or an entire computer with diagnositc cable, etc.?
