Fan in a/c control
Firstly hello I am new to this site and am really enjoying reading all the usefull imformation,I have recently changed to a 3.0d X5 from an E46 330ci, there seems to be a quiet fan noise coming from the left hand side of the climate control panel I understand this is the temperature sensor but it seems to run constantly this is concerning me as when I first looked at the car the battery was flat I have sat in the car for about 30 mins with the ignition off and it still carried on is this as it should be? cheers Andy D |

no, its not supposed to be like that. change final stage resistor, you should be ok. this is a common problem. this is a simple DIY so search the site or find the article on the front page. the final stage resistor should be around $80, it is just a simple task. do it before it kills your battery and leads to other problems.

Andy, The final stage resister has nothing to do with the sensor fan. This fan can sometimes be noisy, and if it should stop, you will have trouble with your climate control running too cold. Stop the engine, wind down the front windows, take the key out of the ignition and the fan should stop after about 8 minutes. To test, reach in, do not open any doors and place a little piece of facial tissue over the fan inlet. If the fan is still running, the tissue will be sucked onto the inlet, and you probably have too much current draw somewhere in the electrical system that is stopping the car from going into sleep mode. Having said all that, if it is an older X5, pre about 2004, it will be fitted with the old style FSR and it would be worthwhile changing as they seem to be a fail item. Colin. |
