weak throttle response

I noticed yesterday and today if I really put my foot the gas pedal my engine seems to accelerate at half power. I have an '02 X5 with 103k mi and it has always been a responsive/quick accelerating maching.

Any suggestions as to why it seems weak?

Many thanks!

Do you have any errors or any icons lighting up? Is it running rougher at idle or when you're on the gas?

Sometimes the X goes into fail-safe mode but I think normally there are indicators on the dash showing up.
