Will 20" rims fit my 4.4l X5 with no mods?

Hi,

I'm new here so cut me some slack if it doesn't turn out right.

I have a 2004 X5 4.4litre. Right hand drive if that makes any difference?

It has 19" rims on at the moment. I want to upgrade to 20" rims with the rear tyres being 315/35/20 i think.

The local BMW dealer reckons that they wont fit and they will scrub on the inner wheel arch. He says that you need major mods to the wheel arch to accommodate the wider tyre?

My dilema is the local tyre shop says that it can be done no problem.

I dont want to fork out the cash to find that after a month or two the tyres are scrubbing on the wheel arch and wearing out.

I must admit when you put your hand on the inside of the tyre there isn't much room between the existing 285 tyre and the inner wheel arch so maybe they will scrub?

Is this right?

Has anyone elase done this?

Thanks for your help.
