Bonnet & Tailgate Edges - Finish

Hey guys,
I've been wondering for a while now when each time I wash my X (every Sunday) why the finish is as it is on the edges of the bonnet and the tailgate. In a word I reckon it looks shitty. I'm almost certain that the bonnet has not been resprayed because of the many touched up minor paint chips that have been there since I bought it (I intend to paint this year).

Does everybody else have these dull edges similar to mine at both locations ??

Surprising given that they are quite visible especially when the bonnet and or t/gate are open and I would of thought that on a bimmer that these edges would look 'the goods' and have a nice full gloss finish the same as the main pillar between both doors when they are open.

Pics are self explanatory.

Just years of accumulated dirt. If you get a brand new BMW and wash it your self regularly and include those areas, they'll all look the same and you won't be able to tell the difference. Most people don't bother, and certainly commercial car washes don't as well.

Yeah Meister,
I hear what you're saying however I have never, nor will I ever take my X through a commercial car wash. Plus I like the satisfaction of hand washing my car and whilst doing so I pick up on any anomalies like any new nicks etc in the process. I suppose I am a bit anal in that each wash I detail inside each wheel arch, clean what's visible of the mufflers and of course under the bonnet etc. I usually set aside at least 1 1/2 hrs to clean in & out.

The bonnet & t/gate edges just irk me each time I see them and although I clean them they don't look any different to the pics. I'm wondering if heat from the engine bay has effected the paint on those edges.

Guess I've gotta live with em untill I paint later on.
