4 Spoke Heated Steering Wheel

Disclaimer: I did search before posting this...

I'm confused with the heated steering wheel retrofit with respect to a 4 spoke non-heated to 4 spoke heated retrofit (I do know there is a heated sport wheel retrofit pdf on the home page)

My question is: Do non-heated 4 spoke wheels have the heating coil (potential to become heated) or would I need to buy a specific 4 spoke heated wheel?

I understand there are additional parts that go along with it but I'm just curious about the wheel itself...

Thanks for help!!

Well, I checked out RealOEM.com (thanks to X5_Meister's post) and now think they are 2 separate steering wheels so I would need a new 4 spoke steering wheel to retrofit the heated wheel... If someone believes this is incorrect, please chime in!

Looking at realoem.com it appears that you would need to purchase a new steering wheel that has the heater element in it.

If you are going to "upgrade" your steering wheel to have it be heated, I would upgrade to the Sports Steering Wheel while you are at it.

That definitely would make more sense. It's too bad it's so expensive to do the upgrade (especially since it was originally only a $150 option!!!). I may just have to do with the economical solution... a pair of gloves

Think a visit to a junkyard might be the best route as far as $$ is concerned?

Junkyard might prove successful. The 4-spoke is in the 3.0i and 4.4i so you may have a decent shot at getting one.

Personally, I never liked the heated steering wheel, there is only two settings on or off. If it was a 3-stage like the seats I probably would have "warmed" up to it more!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that enjoys corny jokes like that!

Thanks for the advice jsears! I definitely wouldn't consider spending more than $100 on the mod but I figured it'd be a very 'nice to have' in the New England winters.

Is the sport wheel that much better than the 4 spoke? I'll keep my eyes open on ebay to see what I can find.
