Motorola v50 BMW PHONE

I know people on here have the motorola v50. For those of you that do, or those that know, Does this phone use a SIM Card that I can buy from Rogers or Fido and just pop into this phone to get it working?

I've been looking up tech specs on the net and none have a picutre with the battrery cover off to confirm. Some specs say it has the slot and others say it's not compatible.

What is the verdict x5worlders! Can I buy a SIM card and use it in an unlocked phone?

Also I'm looking to get a cheap motorola v50. ebay has the original bmw phones (probably hot ones) for 100GBP WAY TOO MUCH for an old phone. If anyone has a cheap cheap cheap v50 I'd be interested. Message or PM me.

Don't have a v50, but I do have a v180 I will be posting on eBay soon. If interested, let me know.

What do you mean? I assume they both have the standard Moto connectors on the bottom. Neither are Bluetooth. About the same size.

My E46 had the Moto V50. It is a standard phone but with BMW specific Firmware to enable it to work correctly with the car kit equipment. I bought a replacement V50 as the one supplied looked like it had been used for football practice but it wouldn't work properly with (if I recall) the steering wheel controls.

I swapped the cases over in the end to get a tidy phone.

Yes, it does take standard small SIM cards and if unlocked (which all the BMW supplied phones are) will work on any standard GSM network.

As far as I know, the eject box will only fit a V50 and none of the others.

If you don't get a V50 with the BMW software it will cause the car battery to go flat if left connected.

Thanks Trapdoor, I'm glad to hear that I can use it on my network here. However when you used a non bmw moto v50, besides the steering function controls not working (and the issue of it draining the battery), did it work with the rest of the car?

No one have any input as to if a non BMW fireware'd v50 will function in the car other than not working with the steering wheel?
