Anyone selling their X5 in the Pacific NW-area?

Just got a bad report back on the X5 we bought this weekend (2002 3.0i w/ 59k miles)

and we are back in the market for a good, low mileage E53 if anyone has one for sale in the Pacific Northwest. We paid ~$14,500 for this one and would like to stay close to that number. If you've got something you're trying to unload, let me know.

Total bummer.

What was the diagnosis? Did you return the one your bought?

How come you got an inspection report 'after' you bought it, why not before ?? Hope you can return it ok with nil penalty.

What was wrong with it ?? It must have been bad (expensive) news.

Maybe that's why it was priced so low. You may be hard pressed to find a good X5 3.0 with less than 60k miles for around the price you previously negotiated.

The Carfax came back guaranteed clean, but I knew that the front left fender had been off and put back on so the dealer agreed to allow me to return the X5 within 7 days for any reason (yes, I have it in writing).

Bought the vehicle up in the Seattle area and drove it down to Welcome to Collision Rebuilders, Inc. who we have used for years and years and are the best shop in PDX and they went over it thoroughly and pointed out all of the things that are wrong - where repairs have been made, where glass has been replaced and moldings have been off, and where there has been unibody damage that was *improperly* repaired. Car tracks straight as an arrow and runs great, but too many issues (and unibody damage) for us to keep it.

I don't think the dealer had any idea that the damage was there - he actually pointed out to me that the fender had been off, suggested I take the car to an alignment/frame shop instead of to BMW b/c they would be better at picking out any unibody damage, and gave me 7 days to return it for any reason.

So, we are back on the hunt. I realize it will be difficult to find another for the price w/ the mileage/features of this one, but hopefully one with a little better structural integrity.

Just read your report. Any ideas what caused the damage? Accident, hitch, bigfoot?

Yes, accident. Had to have been. There was an issue w/ the hood and left fender and the unibody/frame issue was near the right front fender.
Had to have been an accident. Or they took it to Yellowstone and ran across Bigfoot... plausible.

My WTF'ing was related to your buying a car and realizing it's a structural disaster two days later. It was partially in jest. All joking aside, glad you got your $ back. Two pieces of honest advice.
1. Start looking for a used X5 from a BMW dealer. Preferably a CPO. Yes you can buy a 70,000 X5 that is CPO. Not typically someone's first choice, but if you like the car and that's your budget, then at least you have some assurance the mess you experience once won't likely happen again from a BMW dealer on an inspected and 'certified' car.
2. Doesn't carfax have a guarantee of some sort. If I were you I'd get everything documented and start having my attorney call carfax ASAP. Their info has long been known to be sh_t at times and looks like it almost cost you a bundle. Not good.
