The 2004 X5 did not come with Bluetooth. You can retrofit Bluetooth into the vehicle, and this will give you phone capabilities, but it will not play MP3 music through the system. For that you should look for something like an iPod interface kit, such as DICE.

oh. when i push the phone button on the steering wheel i get a vrzn voice telling me there is nothing programmed i thought that meant it was blue tooth ready. thanks

Read about bluetooth on the home page, there is a ton, literally, of information. Also what is the build date of your car and where are you located? The 2004, 2005 model years were the time when bluetooth implementation was changing the most, so it's hard to give you accurate advice without that info.
