Hi guys n gals

Im new to this forum and iv recently purchased a X5 2002 model and really liking it. hopefully i will get around to reading all of the issues people have had with these cars otherwise its great.

iv been looking around the forum and on ebay for Hids for the car, but only to come to a very confusing situation LOL. Some of the sellers have mentioned using H7 bulbs and whilst checking the bulb i dont see a H7 but a D2S bulb also known as D2C or D2R.

Really am confused now. if any of u guys got some spare time please let a little brother know which kit i can buy or what to do thanks.

H7 is just a bulb upgrade to your current non-HID system (sometimes these come with ballasts and harnesses to use your current headlamps as a HID headlamp), but the others are HID bulbs themselves which is entirely different from using a *converted* halogen bulb.

I'll let some of the fellas who have done these swaps chime in.

Hi there, sorry I'm not in a position to pass comment on bulbs, like Wagner said others will pop in soon enough. When you get a chance post up a couple of pics of your new ride. Is it a diesel or petrol ??

1. Do you have OEM HIDs on the low beam? from what you stated above (D2S) I assume the answer is yes, and that leads to the next question...
2. Which lamps do you want to upgradeto HID? Fogs? High beams?

The OEM HID low beam colour is 4,300K ... If you want something brighter then you can go to a higher colour temp ... check the pic below from EAS website...



Color Temperatures
Higher temperature does not mean increased light output. Color temperature is a measurement in Kelvin (K) that indicates the hue of the light source. All HIDs are so bright they are gauged to sunlight and the color that the sun will be at that temperature. As the color temperature increases, the light output of the HID is reduced.

- 10,000K = dark blue (less visible light more color)
- 8000K = blue
- 6000K = blue-white
- 5000K = white (peak light output)
- 4300K = white (peak light output OEM color temp)
- 3000K = gold-yellow (yellow)

Welcome newb ! If you see d2S bulbs in your headlights then you have HIDs. H7 bulbs are for the halogen equipped X5's. If you were to change from halogen to HID for example then you will need the HID kit with H7 bulbs. In your case, you will only need the D2S bulbs.

thanks guys seems like i have confused myself in that case LOL. i dont have the HID bulbs but the halogen ones so if thats correct then im going for a H7 bulb kit which is cool. Another thing im worried about is the OBC giving error readings for the hid kit. has anyone else experiencing error messages whilst having the HIDs installed?

I have a black 3.0 petrol X5 im really happy with it but then i found out my passenger side mirror is closing with the folding in switch but not folding back out. also feels very loose. hopefully i get it sorted out asap.
