CPO Inspection Guidelines
While searching X5 World I came across an Article that UCrewX5 posted regarding the BMW Vehicle Inspection Guidelines and Standards. Here is the reference link: BMW CPO Inspection Guidelines. Am I to assume that this document is what the dealership should have done to certify my vehicle? I paid to have the car certified but reading through this there are quite a few items they absolutely did not do. Do they have discretion on what they do and don't do??? |

Well done actually reading the CPO Guidelines Link!
Another thread, of the many in the similar vein as your question: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...refully-2.html It seems as if the CPO "Guidelines" are not always subscribed to, in detail, by some dlrs. (My guess is that many dlrs give it a wash, a cosmetic detail, maybe put it on a lift for 20 mins, and slap a CPO sticker on it, but I'm a registered skeptic.) And, mixed reviews, by posters, who have purchased CPO cars. Otoh, a CPO "warranty" is better than none at all, and you should be able to work through nits with the dlr. GL,mD

well, although you are spending some money on the vehicle to get it inspected, the larger costs is associated with the actual extended warranty.
Does warranty direct inspect your cars before giving you the warranty? It's assumed that if it's currently under warranty, any of the big issues would have panned out before the extended warranty comes into play. You are paying for coverage more, not the inspection. Be happy knowing if something does go wrong, it'll be covered. |

motordavid - thanks for the link to the other post. I swear I spend more time looking for posts but never found that one. I wish I found it earlier. I guess the issue I have is that the sister dealership that I bought the X from charged me $3,800.00 to certify it. I just brought it up with the service manager and he was a little shocked as well. So all in all I think I will have one fine X5 when all is said and done but man it is killing me not knowing what they should have done or not...

Good luck with the vehicle! Im' sure it will be just fine.
If you caught them not looking at some of the inspection points, might as well ding them with it! Just don't feel too bad about it in the first place. They do these inspections on so many cars, and I'm sure they focus on particular areas that are of concern. Some of the other areas that they never see issues, it's easy for them to skip. It's the nature of the business. I know some friends that want a car to be certified so bad, they hope the dealer does a very quick run-through so they can have CPO on the vehicle. Otherwise, they would need to pass on the vehicle if it didn't pass. Their mentality is that if something is wrong, it will be covered anyways. |
