im in the market for a black on black x5 i have found alot of them. im lookng for one so i can put a nice set of wheels on it. ( stagered ) my question is that i know i want a v8 but are both the 4.4 and 4.6, are they both good engines? and i know i want navigation, but herd the bmw navi not all that good. so ill prob get a double din aftermarket to install. what do i need to look out for and look for when getting a used e53. any info will be helpfull. i have owned alot of bmw cars and this will be my first x5. thanks..

Maybe start with the Home page, here's a few things that you might find interesting and helpfull: Newbie FAQ, http://www.Introduction to the BMW X5 (E53) etc etc. Others will come in with specifics I'm sure. Good luck with your purchase.

for 20k, I don't know if you can find a nice 4.6
I'd look at the '04 or '05 4.4's in the best condition you can. >'03 because of the engine and transmission upgrades. Lower miles because it will save you money in the long run. Good luck. |

Did you have a look at my previous suggestions ?? Researching here especially on the Home Page is a great place to start. You mention that you want a V8 but not sure about 4.4 & 4.6. Start with a simple search of just that, tons of info will then be at your disposal on both V8's, then while you're at it type in 'Maintenance Issues with E53'. You also mentioned that you tend to jump in and learn as you go, well join the queue 'cause that's how most us have entered into the realm of X5's.
As a previous owner of 'lots of BMW cars' you're in a much better position than most in having that experience and surely you must have some basic ideas of what to look for. You, like all of us, must do your own ground work in comparing prices for different models with different milage, options etc. Trolling through dealers offerings along with ebay will also surely give you at the least what's out there and values. Don't buy on impulse, try and find history of what you think you'll buy. Good luck reading and researching before you pull the trigger PS: STOP YELLING
