SES - could it be fuel pump?

SES light came on about a month ago. Went to dealer last week. They kept it all week and replaced oxygen sensors and camshaft sensor. Service technician says all good. Drove away from the dealer, and 5 minutes later, the SES light is back on again .

Went to local Autozone to get a readout and they return codes 1158 (Fuel Trim Additve Bank 1 Low) and 1160 (Fuel Trim Additve Bank 2 Low). The X5 has shut off a couple of times in recent months just after starting. Anyone think it could be fuel pump or fuel filter and if so is there a link to someone doing a 2001 X5 4.4i replacement?

Welcome to X5World, Nittany!
Sorry to hear about the SES light. Y'know, there's another thread here about that- both in my case & theirs, in came down to a fuel-line pressure discrepancy that triggered the light. I'll look in my summary from the dealer visit last week to see if the error code lines up with yours. In the meantime, I'd recommend searching for SES in the forums if you haven't already. When I find the code, I'll post or PM you, ok?
Enjoy the boards & Good luck!

Thanks, Mindfull. I am leaning toward replacing

the MAF. I will clean the MAF first, then drive it for a bit to see if there is some difference. I am now at 89k miles so maybe it needs to be cleaned or replaced. I already replaced the air filter 2 weeks ago, so the MAF is my next guess. It doesn't look hard to replace at all except for the screws. I'll be sure to search for the other SES related threads now.

SES diagnosed...

The dealer drove my vehicle, diagnosed my problem, and found some codes. They narrowed it down to the MAF. I feel I can do this myself instead of the dealer doing it so I'll buy a MAF myself. I just don't know if the SES light clears itself or if I have to clear it after installing the MAF.

Glad the source is narrowed down. As for the light, I believe the SES will remain lit until cleared. There are reset tools available but a shop would likely do it for you provided there's no other cause for a recurring error (fingers crossed). Good Luck with the MAF.

Hey NittanyX5! How your X5 is running now?
were you able to get way of those codes:P1158/P1160 by simply replacing the (Mass airflow sensor)? If not, what was wrong? what were replaced?
However I'm still learning toward these codes too on my car, after replacing a long list of parts except the Mass sensor.
