Wiper motor transmission/linkage install help needed ...

How's it going team, my wipers stopped working and I replaced the wiper motor only to find that the linkage that connects to it wont stay on

. I ordered the linkage and I was told that its called the wiper transmission. I received it but it looks a little different (researched the product and confirmed that it will fit/work for 2000-2006 X5's). Not sure how to install it though

.... Please help...

RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog has a great diagram of all the parts and how they connect. Good luck - I just fixed my wiper problem last week, it turned out to be a relay

What's the year and model of your X? How about a part number? I can try and see if there's install instructions somewhere.

i just looked at bentley manual , it does not show much but looks easy job so if you already changed wiper motor should be easy . remove wiper arms , remove cabin air plenum chamber ,remove mounting bolts at each end of mechanism , remove motor bracket fixings and electrical connector then assembly should remove complete . try to post photo of your wiper mechanism before you pullit apart so i can compare with manual , i can`t post pic from manual . by the way , when i read manuals that abbreviate the word assembly to assy i tend to think foghorn leghorn wrote it as in remove the wiper assy boy .

Okay it looks to me like the motor and linkage are together as one unit (see pic below). If they are separate try and see how it fits below. Maybe you forgot to use a retaining clip or nut. Maybe you can mark the area/connection that you're having a problem with if you can't take pics.

thanks for diagram twinspoppa , items 3 and 8 are bushes that should be replaced . items 4 and 2 secure assembly .

Thanks a million guys... My issue was with the bottom linkage/arm where they connect together and then directly to the motor (directly below #1 on the diagram) it was worn and refused to stay on, so I had to order the entire unit including another motor. Now it's time for the fun part...

You helped me with something before....I was wondering if this job is worth having an independent do. I moved to NC and my tools, etc are still in NJ

I've never done this replacement so not sure. I'd ask your indy for a quote and see what he says. If it's not too much I'd just let them do it and save the headache and hassle of making sure you got the right parts - then seeing if you got the right tools.

I usually let my indy do most of the stuff on my X like brake pads and rotors - even oil changes. Sorry can't be of much help.
