Did I break my shifter?

So I've removed almost all the wood peices inside my X5 to replace with Graphite.
When I got to the shifter, I tried to twist it counter clockwise to "unscrew it" and think I broke it? yikes?!

Its now turning loosely in a circle

Did I just cost myself some additional dollers on a repair?

you dont unscrew it, you just yank on it to pull it off. if it spins, you broke it.

The sifter and arm come as one piece. To get in out put it in drive, sit in the pack seat, reach forward and pull back. Just changed my shifter out yesterday

Weasel will become famous soon enough
You shouldn't need the whole arm, most likely just the shifter knob itself. (the plastic release rod is part of it, the aluminum arm shouldn't be damaged)

Cool, thanks guys .

I feel like such an idiot. it was a weekend DIY taking apart all the wood pieces, ALL the peices were removed and I should have left the handel until I came onto the forum and asked or asked my mechanic tues morning but did it anyway....
