NGK Spark Plugs for Amazing Price!
I went to our Local Auto parts "Canadian Tire" they have them for ......Drum roll......... $5.00 each!! I picked up the "Iridium IX" for $9.99 each!! which are the top of the line NGK's & on their website the Iridiums are the best you can get for the X5 3.0 They have 3 versions you can choose from for the X5- 3.0 Listed according to their value and performance below Dealer Price Canadian Tire G-Power Platinum $28.50 each $5.00 each Laser Platinum/Iridium Didn't Carry Didn't Carry Iridium IX Didn't Carry $10.00 each So in the PDF I'm gonna put this down, so the for Canadian your best bet is going to your Local Canadian Tire and getting the Plugs. Oil For OilBMW charges $8.50 per Liter for their formulated brand, Castrol Synthetic at the local stores is around$9.99 per liter. Filter Kit Dealer is charging $23.00 (filter and rings), which is maybe double than online but not so bad.. I may just get it from them, (cause with shipping charges from onliners your not far off from $20), unless I can find a local store at the online price. Fuel Filter Dealer charges $170 ! gonna look into this now (plus I need to know the procedures still on how to DIY if its possible) So Canadian X5ers you have an awesome price to grab your plugs..from!! NGK even has a their Canadian Headquarters here in Markham and they have a Canadian Website, you check your plug requirements on it. [ NGK Sparkplugs Canada Limited ] Americans I think your local stores may have the same thing in price going, check around your local auto stores.

Did you have to adjust the gap on those plugs before you installed? My understanding is that the plugs from the stealer are "pre-gapped" to BMW specs and do not need adjustment before installation. If you buy from Canadian Tire, the gap may require adjustment to meet BMW specs.

If you buy the G-Power one from Crappy tire, then you need to adjust them, they are the same ones the Steeler sells, I guess they are gapped for the Steeler by NGK,
But it you buy the Iridium or the Laser Platinum, they are already pre gapped according to their packaging. But I'm gonna call the local NGK office for some more info like Torqueing when putting the new plug in, cause the case has no info on that, just that to hand twist it in and then useing a regular wrench turn it 2/3 or something like that, and I'll reconfirm the gapping also. I'll let you know what they say.

I just got off the phone with an NGK rep, found some interesting things.
1) Yes the Iridum IX are pre-gapped 2) You don't need a Torque wrench, just hand tighten them and use regular wrench to do a 1/3 tighten 3) DO NOT LUBE NGK PLUGS!! Very important he said, cause they already have an Anti-Seize coating on them, and lubing will make them prone to be over tightened!!

OE BMW and OEM BMW are not the same just so you know. You bought OEM BMW plugs.

I wrote up an explanation not long ago. Do a thread search for it. But to be brief, yes the difference is more than just packaging and varies depending on the particular item. In the case of spark plugs there is a marked difference and has even been confirmed microscopically.

According to my Bentley Manual, the spark plug to cylinder head torque is: 23+-3 Nm (18+-2 ft-lb)
