4.4 v8 diagram.

Hey gents, I just changed the plugs in the 2003 4.4 x5 and getting misfire codes through the peake tool during wide open throttle for cylinder 3 & 5.

Im gonna go recheck the torque spec on the plugs, and check the lame bremi coils and try swapping those out, I hear a slight detonation in the left exhaust..but

can anyone point out where cylinder 3 and 5 would be? on the driver side middle and passenger side middle?

Cylinders 1 to 4 are located on the passenger side and 5 to 8 are on the driver side.
Try to swap one of the two misfiring cylinder's coils with one of the cylinders that works and see if the error code moves to the other cylinder. If it does then you have a coil issue. Did you follow the BMW specs for the new plugs's gap?

thank you!
the bosch plat 4 prong was pre-gapped, the two last cyclinder closest to the firewall had quite alot of oil from the gasket leak i read about everywhere. I followed the diy on x5world.

The extra oil burned off during the intital start. I drove around the block and everything was fine. But the next day getting on the on-ramp at wot it hiccuped, and would do this only at wide open throttle. It flashed the check engine light like ten times stays but disappears when i feather the throttle.

Parked & idled, I double checked all the hoses post the maf sensor for leaks, but def can here light detonation from the left driver side exhaust. im thinking about ordering some valve cover gaskets and nuts and bolts and go in change them if i can, but thanks for the valuable tip on the cyclinder where is it question on the v8 tag.

i do have extra coils from my 330ci that i have changed due to the bremi recall. Im going to see if I can use those old ones casue they looked dead similar in size.

thanks again alpac, ill keep it updated.

okay!

so yesterday, i cleared all codes again, started the car and drove around with the peake tool attached and pulled again the E3-33 misfire in cyclinder 5.

I checked and to my delight my 2001 330ci's coils are exactly the same, so with some spare coils, popped it into cyclinder 5 the driver side closest to the bumper and so far driving it all morning I cant seem to reproduce the flashing check engine light - cel.

i even went ahead and bought sparkplug wrenches so i wouldnt have to make a trip to my parents place, but it turned out to be a bad mishandled coils pack or boot during the previous spark plug install, fuel filter is next this week.

thanks again for all the input!
