Performance Chip 2005 4.4

Has anyone added a performance chip to their 2005 4.4? Is it worth infesting into? Was overall hp increased?

PowerChip is the ECU software I went with. I have a 3.0i. About 15 hp increase. But there's more to it than that. Improves the responsiveness of the throttle in all ranges. Well worth it. Improved the mileage as well.

Looks like they have software for the 4.4i valvetronic.

Powerchip
I'm not familiar with this PowerChip. Any comments on what type of hp increase one could expect on a 4.4i?

I've looked at Dinan, however, it's all for 2000-2003, nothing for the face-lifted E53's.........

LIX5 and Jsears have the software and they both have facelifted e53 4.8is models... I'll have to look at the Dinan site.. I apologize if I was misleading on that.

No, they have the software for your 4.4i

X5 Series*::*X5 4.4i (E53) 2000-2006*::*Engine Tuning*::*Performance Engine Software (04-06)
X5 Series*::*X5 4.4i (E53) 2000-2006*::*Engine Tuning*::*Stage 2 Engine Software (04-06)
X5 Series*::*X5 4.4i (E53) 2000-2006*::*Engine Tuning*::*Stage 3 Engine Software (04-06)

You kind of have to do some "mod planning" to know which software you want to have. If you are only going to do software do Stage 1. If you are adding a Dinan CAI Stage 2, if you do the Dinan CAI and Throttle Body I would suggest Stage 3.

Or give Dinan a call, their customer service is great and always answer all of my questions!

Does anyone know if such software mods do meet the smog check requirements in California?

They shouldn't change the emissions of the vehicle that much if any. Dinan is based out of California, I don't see how they could develop a product that didn't meet the emissions standards of the state they do business in.
