Liftgate won't close. HELP Please

Opened the liftgate and tailgate...loaded stuff. Shut tailgate (no problem) then tried closing the liftgate and it didn't lock or make the soft close noise. The lock mechanism appears open not stuck. When I press the trunk release buttons the usual noise occurs but the liftgate won't lock.

Your thoughts please. I'm stumped.

I'll be taking it to the dealer as I am stumped. Any insight is appreciated.

Last night, I thought I had closed the rear door of my x, but when I got into the car, the interior lights would not go off.

After cycling the door locks open and closed using the console button, I pressed the console trunk release button, went outside, opened and closed the hatch and all was well.

I would try cycling all the locks and the the trunk release.

Hi, I am having the same problem with my liftgate but cycling the locks doesn't help - did it help you or did you try something else?

I had the same problem a couple years ago. Dealer had to replace the lock mechanism. Under warranty, so no harm to me.
