Exclamation Need your advice on exhaust tips from Ebay?

I have 3.0i 2002 with stock ugly exhasut tips. i was thinking to get on of 2 options, here are links:

ACS tips:
eBay Motors: ACS EXHAUST TIP FOR BMW 3,5,7 SERIES E36 E46 E39 E38 X5 (item 180342101020 end time Apr-29-09 20:56:37 PDT)

Or this type:
eBay Motors: BMW E53 X5 2000-2006 Chrome Exhaust Pipes Tips x2 (item 380111178908 end time Apr-15-09 16:09:37 PDT)

Any suggestions? Will sound stay same? Anyone have one of them installed on 3.0i ?

It can be done on the 3.0i as well. There is an old thread from 2007 that explains the whole thing:

The 4.8is tips are welded onto the Y pipes purchased from Pep Boys...

The poster had their muffler guy cut the slanted/stock tips off, leaving about an inch to weld the Y pipes on to. They also pray painted the inside of the Y pipes a flat black color before they had their muffler guy cut the Y pipes to the right length, too...

*** these are approximate areas where to cut the Y pipes... ... and what they look like when installed...

The key is the Y pipes and finding a good muffler shop and person who will cut the Y pipes, weld them onto the muffler, and then weld the 4.8 tips onto the Y pipes. No other tips out there in the market come even close to the OEM 4.8is exhaust look. With the staggered, bigger and wider 20" wheels, the slanted stock exhaust tips looked too wimpy. The 4.8is tips is the way to go!

You can have them welded on the 3.0i's single tip. No need for Y pipe!

I bought mine here: STAINLESS STEEL BMW X5 E53 TWIN EXHAUST TAILPIPE TRIM on eBay, also Exhaust Components, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 07-Apr-09 20:02:59 BST) Bargain “! Considering the changes it makes to your X5
All I had to do was cut the tips of the exhaust, the bit that bends down”! Then proceeded by sliding the tips in, tighten the bracket and also welded the tip to the muffler for safe keeping”!
