Crank Sensor & all that could go wrong!

HELP!!

My 2001 X5 3.0L auto just went from being one of my favs to worse... With zero indication my SES and transmission light came on. Now the X5 is way way down on power, like I have to shift it into 4th just to get over an interstate overpass! I am driving from Houston to Savannah, Georgia currently and on my PDA now.

I stopped by Autozone and scanned the OBD and came up with a host of codes.

P0355
P0175
P0727
P1500

I called a dealer enroute and they have a Crankshaft Position Sensor in stock... so I am going to pick that up. Can anyone tell me if 1) you think that would cause the tranny light to come on and shift harsh as it seems like it has not a clue. 2) where is the Crank sensor located on the engine?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I would not think a crank sensor will cause this, more likely a speed sensor

I thought of that... but the cruise control works fine and is based off the speed sensor input. So i ruled that out and the bad crank sensor would explain the misfire and rich O2 sensor code as well. Now i just need to find out where its located.

Well I just love throwing away money these days... i can think of much more entertaining ways to Burn Up $150 than changing the Crank Sensor and six spark plugs. I bought the OEM part from BMW just to be sure and no change.

Yep... still no power and still the lights on. We'll see if it makes the trip to Savannah in the morning.

SAE Code P0355
DTC Code 16739
Description Ignition Coil (E) Cylinder 5 Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction

SAE Code P0175
DTC Code 16559
Description Fuel Trim, Bank2 System too Rich

SAE Code P0727
DTC Code 17111
Description Engine Speed Input Circuit No Signal

SAE Code P1500
DTC Code 17908
Description Fuel Pump Relay Circuit Electrical Malfunction

Sorry can't help with more. I hope those code descriptions are accurate.

Doesn't sound like a tranny problem but maybe another sensor?

Well i made it from Houston to Savannah with the X5 running like crap. Shocked me... i certainly thought i would get stranded.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these code? I can feel a dealer reaming coming on!
